According to The Radicati Group, about 29.4 billion emails (not including spam and viruses) were sent per day in 2010. Properly used, email is an extremely effective and efficient way to request and share information. Improper or inadvertent use can lead to unintended and, in the legal realm, potentially devastating consequences.

In 2010, businesses worldwide supported 725 million e-mail accounts, each generating 110 messages a day, according to market research firm The Radicati Group Inc. Those numbers are expected to increase to 950 million accounts generating 119 messages a day in 2014.

A September 2011 survey by the Radicati Group, a technology market research firm, found that the average corporate worker receives 100 email messages per day and sends 41. All those seemingly quick missives can add up to a huge time drain, eating up a quarter of each worker’s day.
