E-mail is an indispensable business tool, and its presence in the workplace continues to increase. According to research by The Radicati Group Inc., employees will spend an average of one-third of their workday in 2008 managing e-mail — writing new messages, replying, forwarding and searching for older correspondence. That figure is projected to jump to 41 percent in 2009.


Ambitious Meebo picks up partners

Meebo, the 3-year-old Mountain View start-up recognized as a trailblazer in Web-based communications, unveiled eight new partnerships on Wednesday that could potentially add 55 million users to its growing instant-messaging service. “There’s a lot of movement and excitement in the [live communication] field,” said Sarah Radicati, analyst and chief executive of the Palo Alto-based Radicati Group. “It’s a very lively space, changing very quickly.”

Analyst Sara Radicati has not tried Delver yet but said any venture of this kind has to win over users already comfortable with other tools, such as Google, for search. “Even with regular Web search I think users often don’t know how to deal with all the results that are returned,” Radicati, CEO of The Radicati Group, told InternetNews.com. “You can get all kinds of fascinating information, but it can be overwhelming.” For Delver to be successful, Radicati said it must attract early adopters comfortable using new tools and hope a viral marketing or strong word-of-mouth campaign can grow its user base. She thinks Delver could catch on if it can help the average user find more selective, relevant results.


SaaS Best Path for SMB Unified Communications

At a recent webconference, a panel of UC experts said that small to mid-size businesses eyeing unified communications should consider the software as a service (SaaS) approach. There’s been a fairly slow up tick [with SMBs] so far but that’s due to change very soon,” Sara Radicati, president, Radicati Group, told Web conference attendees. Market drivers include more SaaS options, faster connectivity and SMB interest in building virtual workforces. “There are lots of elements coming together pushing it along,” said Radicati.
