Meebo introduces a new “V.I.P.” feature for its users

Meebo has incorporated a new V.I.P. feature for its users. The new V.I.P. feature allows Meebo users to check into partnered web sites, with multiple check-ins granting a “V.I.P.” status that gives users exclusive deals and premium access to the vendor’s merchandise or services.

Meebo is continuing to move past its past as a simple IM aggregator and making aggressive moves into the social media space. This twist on “check-ins” is definitely innovative and plays on the current trend of offering discounts on goods and services through social media. The key to success here, however, is Meebo’s network of partneered websites that are willing to give out deals to loyal visitors to the website. As users are more likely to peruse the goods and services on Meebo’s partnered websites, more sites will be inclined to partner with Meebo as Meebo can offer a surefire way to boost traffic onto the website. It’s a business model that was successful for Groupon and LivingSocial, and one that will spell extended success for Meebo as well.
