Email
Business Users spend an average of 19% of their workday using e-mail.
According to business users, 19% of e-mail messages received contained
an attachment.
The total installed base for worldwide corporate e-mail market reached
516 million mailboxes in 2007, and will increase to 631 million
by the year-end 2011.
Insourced corporate mailboxes account for 76% of all corporate mailboxes
in 2007, as opposed to outsourced corporate mailboxes, which account
for 24%.
Business users are reporting a lower percentage of spam in their
inboxes, on average only 18% of the total messages respondents receive
is spam. Factoring in that overall spam traffic is rising, this
suggests that anti-spam technologies are doing well to keep up with
the latest spamming techniques.
77% of Business email users reported that at times they forward
their business email to their personal accounts. This opens up a
frightening security breach for organizations, particularly those
in regulated industries.
Wireless Email
In 2007, the wireless e-mail market totaled 25 million accounts.
Over the next four years, this figure will increase at an average
annual rate of 100%, totaling 395 million mailboxes by year-end
2011.
In 2007, only 1% of worldwide active e-mail mailboxes were accessed
with a wireless push e-mail solution. By year-end 2011, over 16%
of worldwide active e-mail mailboxes will be accessed with a wireless
push e-mail solution.
Instant Messaging
42% of business users indicated that their organization does not
currently use a company-wide sanctioned IM solution.
MSN Messenger (now Windows Live Messenger) remains the most used
public IM solution by Business users (40%), followed by Yahoo! Messenger
(18%).
